For
Solo Vibraphone
Program Note
time is a scam is my ode to prog rock. The main section is structured around a nested triplet within a quintuplet, giving the piece a relentless but lurching pulse. The piece is also an exercise in controlling resonance, requiring the performer to bring a staccato, articulate quality to a naturally “washy” instrument.
NB: If the instrumentation for the piece is listed on a program, it should be listed as “Solo Vibraphone” rather than “Prepared Vibraphone.” If possible, the inclusion of preparations should be obscured from the audience, giving the impression that the instrument can magically play both sustained notes as well as dry, staccato ones simultaneously.
